Three days at the Nebraska State Fair.

Three days later. I'm still tired. I feel a bit wimpy when two women from The Nebraska Writers Guild manned the booth every day for eleven days!

This year, 2019, rain storm after rain storm plagued the fair.

Cloudy days.

Nebraska State Fair

Mud beyond driving on the grounds.

Finding buses and shuttles.

Volunteers had to sit at a sidewalk corner, directing traffic around huge pools of water.

But I helped three days.

The first day I went was the first day of the fair and I sold no books, but felt like I did. People were few, but a joy to interact with.

The second day I went, we weren't allowed to park on the grounds, but had to be shuttled back and forth. What I could fit into a backpack was all I could take.

Two books of each version.

How do you sell books that way?

But the day before, I figured out how to create and print codes to stick on the back of my bookmarks. I sold each one for $1 and when the reader entered in the code, they could download the ebook for Released. The sell for $4.99 on Amazon. I sold four bookmarks and three print books, which made my backpack lighter on the shuttle back to my car. Seven books or sales.

The third day, a way opened for me to pack a roller suitcase, loaded with books and more bookmarks and park a block away from the fair gate.

So I sold ten bookmarks, still $1 a piece. And eight print books! Total for the day – eighteen. I used my Square reader for one card sale and either live with the customer or when I didn't have any WiFi, later at home.

Total for 2019 Nebraska State Fair?

Twenty-five.

Last year – Nineteen.
