The Bookshelves

Finding a book in my personal library is hard enough, but cleaning them is over the top shelf!

Dusting?

A piece of cake!

Swish, swish, and I’m done. I use a feather duster.

But when I am writing my WIP (Work In Progress) and I think of a book for reference, that starts a trip down the rabbit hole, or getting sidetracked, or spiraling out, or opening a can of … no, but definitely falling into a trap. I know what you’re thinking, and I know who is thinking it. “That’s just letting procrastination impede your writing progress, right?”

Maybe.

Probably.

Even now, when I think about organizing them by topic or genre, I smile. I love digging into each shelf, finding the book that I was looking for yesterday, and getting all distracted when I find it and by seven others that I haven’t seen in a while.

I stack them up and find a chair.

Remember. I am looking for a book for reference. There is a purpose. Doing that research is important and likely the whole cornerstone of what I’m trying to write.

Maybe.

And since the WIP is with the editor, I might let myself clear off a whole shelf of books and read. Just read. But that is rare when I am in the middle of a rough draft.

God has a library, or so they say.

Well, for sure He has a Book. I think it’s called the Book of Life. Or the Lamb’s Book of Life.

There are verses in the Bible about it. Some of those verses are kind of … well, I’ll let you decide. Psalm 56:8. Amplified Bible – “You number and record my wanderings; put my tears into Your bottle—are they not in Your book?”

God loves us so much that He keeps track of where we go, how many times, and gathers our tears? One translation says, “You’ve kept track of my every toss and turn through the sleepless nights,”

This following verse isn’t as comforting, but what do we do with it? Tear that page out of the Bible? Black it out?

Revelation 20:15. “And if anyone’s [name] was not found recorded in the Book of Life, he was hurled into the lake of fire.” Amplifed Translation (Affiliate Link).

As in if my name isn’t in God’s Book of Life, He will throw me into some fire?
Then how does my name get in His Book of Life?
Romans 10:9 – “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” NKJV.

That’s pretty clear.

But who writes our names there? God Himself? The angels?
And is there any way that our names get deleted or erased from that Book?
Exodus 32:33 – “And the Lord said to Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.” KJV
So we need to confess Jesus Christ and believe in our hearts to get into that book, and stay out of that fire, but stop doing bad things or sinning to stay in that book.
Sounds harsh, until I go to the first verse I wrote above. Psalm 56:8. If God cares so much about us that he counts how many times we go to the bathroom or whenever we go to church or the bar, He’s not being snoopy, He cares about and loves us.
Psalm 56.8 – “Each tear entered in your ledger, each ache written in your book.”  Message Translation. (Affiliate Link.)
Anybody who counts tears and gathers them into His bottle cares deeply about us.
