Does Seeing a Blink Mean You’re Crazy?

Before my author career, I journaled. A  lot. I now have over eighty journals—filled. And I don’t write in the little ones. I use either 8×10 or 9×12 sketch books. You can see a sample here.

I call them my puke-it-out journals, because that is precisely what I do. I puke out anger, I make my task list, I write out my thoughts. Probably better there than down at the coffee shop or when Dearly Beloved calls, right?

There is just as much or more creativity in your home as there is in a library—dig it out. In your business—grow it—let it bloom. Do you love to cook, to grow things, to build things, mow things? It’s all creative.

Ever had what I call a blink? You’ve had them. I’ve had them.

They are quick flashes of a visual in your mind. You need to pay attention because they are fast. That’s why I call them blinks.

What if (my two favorite words, by the way) a visual blinked into your mind about a better way to make that bench you’ve been building? Or a better way to mow someone’s yard? Maybe you’ve been working to perfect that recipe, and that blink offered you the perfect ingredient.

Or, like what happened to me, a blink of my brother-in-law reading a book.

I asked God. “Hey God? Is he reading MY book?” (Yeah, that’s how we can talk to Him. Just like you and I would talk to each other.)

I think He grinned.

But I kept seeing blink after blink—all different people reading a book. MY book?

I asked God again. “Hey God? Are they all reading MY book?”

He answered. “Do you think they are reading just one book?”

Silence.

Me to God. “You mean I have more than one book?”

I didn’t have any books! Period. Just messy journals filled with puked out thoughts. But now, in 2026, I’m writing my fourteenth book and have published nine.

What if … those words again … what if you built that bench like the blink you saw? And another bench. And another. And that became your dream business?

What if you opened the oven to that new recipe—the one in the blink, and now it’s printed in the cookbook you published?

What if you mowed that lawn just like you saw in the blink and you picked up seven new accounts because it looked so great?

Right?
