Perspective – “Just a Little”

So, what is the barista’s perspective of ‘just a little’ and what is mine?

“Do you want any whipped cream on that?”

Me – “Just a little.”

I love coffee drinks!

They are somewhat of a comfort drink for me. I don’t drink one every day or even every week. But when I do, ahh! My husband has gotten so when he is in town, and out and about, he’ll stop and buy one for me as a surprise.

I know, right?

But when I am the one to order, the barista’s question always makes me wonder.

And my answer, “Just a little,” probably makes her crazy.

Is just a little about a teaspoon or a tablespoon or a quarter of a cup?

Everyone has a preconceived idea of everything.

So, what does a little nap mean to you?

Or just a little vacation? A week? Two? A year?

Maybe the next time I go in and they ask, I’ll tell them a quarter size dollop is fine.

Speak in specifics.

Not in perspective. Not in vague amounts.

Just as in writing, I’m learning to use the most descriptive word. The best action verb. The correct function.

But that one word might be the wrong word to another author or the reader!

That wrong word might throw the whole vibe of a manuscript off.

“Just a little.”

That one word or descriptive phrase might even turn a reader off or split a family.

One perspective.

I've been writing blog posts about perspective here. It is making me get outta my head and learn where another person might need to be. A friend recently told me that my compassion for even another person who I disagree with is telling. Best thing someone could have said to me.

Back to coffee. How much is too little cream? How much is too much?

Defining words when I talk to someone and especially when I write has become very important to me. Maybe I’m too obsessive. How one person defines Jesus for instance. Is he a great guy or is He God?

We shouldn’t have to tip-toe around words or people, but if a Jehovah Witness agrees with me when I say, “I believe that the only way to eternal life in Heaven is through Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior,” and they agree, then I need to study up on who they believe Jesus is. Because their perspective of Jesus is different than mine, obviously.

Perspective.

Is it a little whipped cream or a lot?

Is Jesus God over all, or just a great guy?
