Psalm 91 – The Sound

by | May 5, 2025 | Faith, Writing | 0 comments

Started this on April 26, 2025. Maybe I’ll make it through the entire psalm!

Well, actually before that. I knew that God had asked me to read it every morning as I paced the floor. Paced and prayed. So on that Saturday, I was pacing and praying Psalm 91. Reading it out of several translations.

In the Amplified Translation (Affiliate link.) I’ve been pondering verse one. “He who dwells …”

What does dwell mean? In the Amplified Translation, there’s a reference to Exodus 15:26 right at dwell.

Oh no. Another rabbit hole. Now I”m lost in Exodus 15!

I looked it up in the NASBS (New American Standard Bible Strong’s) just to gain access to the Strong’s Concordance.

“And He said, if you will give earnest heed to the voice of the Lord your God, … ”

Give earnest heed is amazing when it opens Brown-Driver-Briggs’ Definitions. There are a ton of definitions there and I asked Lord what He wanted me to focus on.

This feels like a long way from Psalm 91!

I sip my coffee – a sip – I swallow slowly. Not a gulp. And I tasted it – even though the cup is almost empty. Sip. Taste. Slowly.

So Lord I apply that to Bible Study now.

There is a word in the definitions – sound – and that’s the one I’m drawn to. There are many good ones: “To hear intelligently, to hear, listen to, obey, to hear with attention, to be heard, to cause to hear, to cause to be heard.”

Again, I’m applying sip, taste, slowly,  here.

But the very last one is for me, the sip. The simple.

It’s sound.

So in Exodus 15:26, we can fill in, “If you will give earnest heed or sound to the voice of the Lord your God … “

Give sound to the voice.

Let Him speak through us, through me. His voice.

What did You do Lord with Your voice?

Bonnie's Bible at Genesis 1

Bonnie's Bible “And God said … “

In Genesis 1, I have underlined “And God said,” NINE TIMES! (Nine means or represents “Divine Completeness, of finality from www.theministryjourney.com.)

Matthew 27:46 – “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice” till verse 50 when he cried again with a loud voice and gave up His spirit.

In John 19:30 – “When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, It is finished! And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.”

Back to Psalm 91:1 and Exodus 15:26.

I’m adding in “sound.”

“And He said if you will sound (give earnest heed) to the voice of the Lord Your God … “

Another thought – Moses should have spoken! Numbers 20:10-13. Deuteronomy 3:23-28. All of Numbers 20. Verse 2 – no water. Verse 3 – People contended with Moses. “Should have died in the plague. Verse 6 – Moses and Aaron went to the door of the Tent of Meeting – the glory of the Lord appeared to them. Lord said. Verse eight – Take the Rod (a symbol of authority). I just thought of a scene from my book, Resurrected, chapter seven – a very powerful scene – rods that pounded the ground. But that’s another blog post.

Shepherds used rods to guide and correct their flocks. Ps. 23:4.

Verse 8 – “Take the rod, and assemble the congregation, you and Aaron your brother, and tell the rock before their eyes to give forth its water (!!!) You shall bring forth water for them out of the rock; and let the congregation and their livestock drink.”

Verse 9. Moses took the rod. But he in verse 10, called the people rebels and verse eleven “And Moses lifted up his hand and with his rod he smote the rock twice.

And You Lord let the water “come out abundantly.” But Moses and Aaron lost their destiny to bring the poeple into the Promised Land.

Oh God.

Did Moses – yes, he immediately realized as he smote the rock. He lost his destiny. Anger and frustration. He heard the Lord but didn’t obey.

So when we dwell or abide in You Lord and give earnest heed. If we give sound to the voice of the Lord God. If we speak to the rock, to the storm, to the evil, to the wounds and disease, His Word says that The Lord God will put none of the diseases on us, for He is the Lord Who heals us.

From dwell to sound. But that makes sense now. As we dwell in Him, we hear and learn to obey.

We give sound to His voice here on earth
