Writing from the point of view of angels and demons–how do I even know what they might be thinking or seeing?

Writing about angels might not be too far off, but demons? Does your brain think evil?

I may be ornery but evil?

We have examples of both in the Bible and I like to refer to that, but it doesn't tell everything.

What about the angel who broke Peter out of prison in Acts 12? There are things we must assume here: is there some sort of pager that God uses to send an angel on assignment, does the angel just figure it needs to be done, or is there an angelic round table?

Acts 12:6 Passion Version (I'm not an affiliate!) says that Herod had “made sure that Peter was securely bound with two chains.” He was asleep between two guards and more guards were positioned outside the cell.

Verse 7: “When all at once an angel of the Lord appeared, filling his prison cell with a brilliant light. The angel struck Peter on the side to awaken him and said, “Hurry up! Let's go!” Instantly the chains fell off his wrists.”

How did the chains fall off? It doesn't say that the angel stole the key from one of the guards, leaned down and unlocked the chains. Or the angel brought a saw-zall and cut through the chains.

And he hit Peter! Are they allowed to hit the humans?

Peter followed him out after the angel (what was the angel's name?) told him to hurry up and go!

Verse 10 says they walked past the outer guards–they didn't even see him! And how did the gate swing open “all by itself?”

I think the answer is in verse 5. Peter's friends knew he was in prison. Things had gotten bad (Jacob, John's brother, had been beheaded). and Kiing Herod had Peter thrown in prison during a Feast of Passover.

Just an aside, here. Passover Feast is a major time for Jewish people now, but especially back in Bible times. It was in remembrance of when God visited death upon the firstborns in Egypt, but the Israelites were told to bring a sheep into their homes, take the blood, and smear it on their doorposts so the angel of death would passover their homes and not kill their firstborns. (Found good info here!)

So King Herod picked on the Jews during a very special time of celebration.

Here's a thought. How have your Christmas's been lately? Rough? Full of stress–sometimes of our own making, yes, but things seem to happen during that wonderful celebration of Jesus' birth, right? We get sick. A loved one chooses to go to heaven right then. Relationships might become rocky.

What's that about?

Could it be Satan, the enemy, stirring up trouble, just like King Herod did back then by locking up Peter?

Okay, back to Acts 12.

Verse 5. “The church went into a season of intense intercession, asking God to free him.” Free Peter.

Using my great imagination here. What if the chains were spiritual?

What if as the church prayed, more angels flew in and one released the chains?

What if angels hid Peter as he walked past the outer guards. Or maybe the angels covered the eyes (blinded the eyes?) of the guards. That could happen. 2 Cor. 4:4 says Satan blinds the minds of unbelievers, right? So why couldn't angels blind the eyes of those guards to protect Peter?

And that gate? Other angels could swing that thing open, right? Psalm 91: 12 Passion Version says “If you walk into a trap, they'll be there for you and keep you from stumbling.” If you're caught in a physical or spiritual trap, they wouldn't sit beside you and fan you, would they? They'd free you! Release you! Set you free!

We get so caught up in the physical world that we can't see the invisible side of things.

Like the angels.

What if (my two favorite words) Peter's escape from prison hinged totally on the prayers of the church, his friends?

And their prayers released the angels.

What if the church prayed specifically for Peter to be released from his chains and hidden as he escaped?

What if someone knew the prison intimately, like they'd been imprisoned themselves, and they prayed for that gate to be opened?

I have lots to learn, but just applying my imagination to prayer: Lord shine Your light,  wake us up, break the chains, hide us, blind the enemy, and open the gates!
