I want every day to go well.
Sunshine. Every day.
Words on the project to go well.
Family to all be fine.
Bank accounts … fine. (Whatever that means, right?!)
My email newsletter would write itself. (I love my readers!)
These following clichés are how I feel: my ladder is up against the wrong wall; or I’m climbing up the wrong ladder; you can win at the wrong game; some days our dog is barking up the wrong tree.
Or this one.
I’m writing the wrong story.
Am I?
The night before last, I was awake. (Does that make it day?) For hours.
As I think I have told you before, I keep a steno pad next to my bed. (For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s a spiral notebook with the spiral at the top.)
It wasn’t a twenty-three page night like some have been. What happens is I will get a thought like “order more printer ink,” grab the notebook and write scribble it on the paper, tear the page out and toss it on the floor.
I have had a 23-page night (day) before, but the night before last was definitely a six-page night!
While I was awake, I prayed. I recited Bible verses. And God blinked a couple visuals into my mind.
I sat up.
Wait.
Does that mean I have to ditch the whole book? Is this a whole new book?
I crumbled before I really settled in with Jesus and asked Him. Or listened to His answer.
There are definitely new chapters to be written, or added to the beginning and end of the work in progress (WIP), but not a total re-write.
Whew.
I have a date with the editor in October.
(Checks the calendar.) That’s about the same time you might be reading this column.
Huh.
Glad I read this verse this morning: “‘Ah Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! There is nothing too difficult or too wonderful for You—” Jer. 32:17 Amplified.
