Thoughts on a Kickstarter

Just to be legal, there are no affiliate links in this post!

I have been following several Kickstarter campaigns this last year or so. I've even pledged at certain tier levels–mostly for books–of course!

I have followed Joanna Penn's podcast for many years and she has always stated that she would never do a kickstarter.

But she did and it was very successful for her new book, Pilgrimage. I knew I would purchase her book anyway, but wanted to experience how Kickstarter worked. So I pledged. (Her book is great, by the way. It's a memoir about her walks on ancient routes.)

I have taken a short course from Dean Wesley Smith on kickstarters. And recently purchased a book by Russell P. Nohelty and Monica Leonelle, “Get Your Book Selling on Kickstarter.” I have only begun to read it, but Joanna Penn recommended it, so I am using it as my checklist, so-to-speak.

At first, I had big plans for my fiction series, The Great Escapee Series, but in learning more about what is actually involved, I scaled back to a simpler Kickstarter–“Cash Envelopes: You've Never Had So Much Money.”

This is a book and workbook about how we went from thousands of dollars in debt to a very simple cash system and what the freedom it gave us! Check out my journal post about it here. By the way, the book and workbook are both on sale right now.

I know this Kickstarter will be lots of work, also, but it feels like a better place to start and learn. I'll write two more short books with the same theme: cash envelopes or cash accounts, and narrate the orginal book and create a course or two from the narration.

I think!

I'll write more updates here, as I get started.
